[Public] Apply to SeventhFlight membership, to join our raids. Applications expire in 30 days unless you post replies showing continued interest

Moderator: Recruitment Officer

Forum rules
Applications are "open letters" between SeventhFlight and the applicant. Other applicants and/or guests shouldn't dilute those topics. We prefer to ask references through in-game mail. Abuse of the posting privilege by posting in other people's application topics is a serious issue.

Application threads should be kept on-topic while the application is relevant. This is another very serious issue, and applies to members as well. Side-tracking an application topic which is still relevant is not acceptable, and people are instead urged to post in General Discussion.

Threads in this forum are removed after 30 days with no replies.

READ THIS BEFORE APPLYING!

Postby Jemaius » Mon Dec 12, 2005 2:49 pm

Please note: This thread refers to our recruitment procedure for raiders. The content herein is not applicable for social members, who should refer to the social membership topic instead.

To apply to SeventhFlight raiding you must fulfill all of the following criteria:

- You must be level 100
- You must have DeadlyBossMods/BigWigs, and update them regularly.
- You must have a good understanding of written and spoken English.
- You must have Discord installed, and configured to use "Push-To-Talk".
- You must be willing to join the Seventh Flight guild.

Before applying, read this entire thread, or you may end up asking questions answered within, or breaking guidelines stated in here. Doing so won't really impress us, so make sure to read it fully! In addition, you should read the public section of our charter for general rules of the community, to see if you'll fit in here.

Registering on the forum
To apply for membership, you must register on the forum with a valid email address. This is a requirement, so that you can "guaranteed" be reached. In addition, your user name must match your character name (but may not include special characters. If your character's name includes an accented letter, use the non-accented one.

The registration prodecure requires you to type in a visually readable code (CAPTCHA) to verify that you are a human and not an automated spamming bot. We regret this hoop, but it must be done. In addition, passwords must be secure; they must contain at least 8 characters, of which at least one must be a capital letter, and at least one must be a number. Registration will fail if you do not supply a password that fulfils the criteria.

In addition, the forums will send you a confirmation email message. This email message will arrive from the email address

Code: Select all
noreply at seventhflight.com

Please ensure that spam filters are properly configured to let this email address through. Things sent through the forums are expected to be read as soon as possibly, and it will only be used very sparingly, so do ensure you don't miss any eventual such messages! Please note that Hotmail addresses will not receive this confirmation! This is Microsoft's fault, so use, say, GMail.

***Feel free to check our complete ruleset in the announcements of viewforum.php?f=2 ***

The following should be used as a starting point in creating your application. All information here is required, and failing to follow the application format may cause it to be unprocessed, with no reason stated. Please follow this.

Applications should be posted in a new thread for each application. The thread must be titled "Name (Class)", for example "Jemaius (Paladin)". The bold headings should be in your application. The italic text should be replaced with what we want to see there. Please be detailed; your application will be our starting point to judge how you as a person will fit here. It's your "sales pitch".

TEMPLATE

About me
Give us some information about yourself. Who you are, what you do. Common topics include:

- Country of origin (we have plenty here)
- Playstyle (RP, PvE, PvP, Lasagne)
- What keeps you playing World of Warcraft?

- A lot of things I've missed to list

The more the better, usually, just don't go writing an essay. We're a lot of different people here, and we're interested in a community, not the Military

Gameplay
Still, we need to know you can raid with us, since we ARE a raid community.

- Times available (Specifically, what times can you play Friday, Sunday and Tuesday)
- When you (most often) won't be available
- Any problems with the checklist (any points which you fail). You really shouldn't have any if you're applying, but if you have any and don't post them, the application will be disregarded immediately.

Credentials
What's special about you? What have you done so far on Argent Dawn?
Do you know any of our members?
What kind of gameplay experience do you have?
If you have raided before, with which groups? When did you leave them? Why?
Do you have any max level alts?
Are you able to understand orders and tactics being explained on Mumble in English?
Will Tayas' constant eating while he talks on Mumble cause you personal distress?

Character
Armory
Put your name in the URL where stated.
If you've made unusual gear choices, or have some great gear you're not wearing, please tell us about it.
How raid friendly do you consider your build? Would you be willing to respec and if so, are there any limits?

If you have a raid-viable dual talent spec, please include that as well.

Misc
Why SeventhFlight?
Anything else you'd like to say?
(Optional) What's 42?

Recruitment Policy

Postby Jemaius » Tue Apr 25, 2006 2:32 pm

SeventhFlight strives to keep a good community of around 30 members. These magic numbers are based around a calculation of 3 to 4 of each class. Since we are a community, we'd like to be small enough for everyone to know everyone else, but large enough to pull off raids on a regular basis. We feel that the numbers above are the best way to do it.

Our recruitment policy is cautious recruiting, as we'd really hate to let someone raid with us then tell them they have to go. This is frustrating -- we know it is. But we'd also rather have people show their interest than being conceited. You all have a chance to join us, but we only have the ability to support limited members before we become too big. We really don't want to become too big; it's not fun.

To that end, we really discuss applicants. "Do we need more of this class? How will our attendance look? How do we feel about more of this, and how will it affect us?" Then we evaluate the people applying. How will you fit with us, how well will you be able to work with us, and so forth. This all takes a while. Again, we know it's frustrating, but in our community every member counts, and we really don't want to have a high member turnover. It's just not fun.

But, but. By all means, if you're interested in us, do apply! It'll take us a while, but you're not forgotten. And I am being metaphorical by "a while" -- it might take a long time for certain classes. But we'd rather give the opportunity than close the door entirely.

After the application is submitted
Thanks for submitting your application. It has probably been noted. As a policy, recruitment notices are only given when an application is processed (that is, a trial is incoming), more information is needed (we'll ask you a question) or the application is closed (for reasons best known to us).

If you do not receive a reply that means your application is in an open state. This means you still have a shot at getting in, provided you keep bumping it every two to three weeks providing feedback that you're still around.

As an applicant, you may now /join seventhflight. Use the channel to LFG, gear up and get to know us. If your application is closed, please leave the channel.

Regrettably, we can't realistically reply to every application all the time. There are two main reasons for this -- if an application is open, all we can say is "cool", which doesn't help anyone. We do revisit all class applications in our 30-day backlog as soon as we feel that we need to add another member, so as long as your application has been bumped within the last 30 days, you will be considered.

What is a trial?
A trial is one of the later steps to being accepted in the community. When you are to be trialled, we have determined the need to fill your class' position, and picked you for it. The trial will determine your abilities in a raid environment, and see if you will fit in the group. Very few people get trialled, so make sure your application is interesting enough to make us go "hey, we want to trial this guy/girl!"

While on trial you will not usually be offered loot, earn points or position on our loot lists. Still, please say "--me" if an item you want drops, you might just get lucky. There's no catch attached.

When do I get trial?
Trials are scheduled for Fridays, usually starting between 7 and 8PM server time. Triallees are notified Tuesday evening/Wednesday morning of an upcoming trial. If you have not had any notice of trial by Wednesday evening, you are not scheduled for trial.

Unless a very special exception happens, this is how trials are handled. You will be notified via a private message on these forums, which will also trigger an email to be sent to your email address. That's why you need a working one.

What not to do?
Don't whisper us about getting a trial, if you have not been notified using the method outlined above.

What to do before a raid
Before going on trial with SeventhFlight, we recommend that you do a few things to prepare yourself. Coming prepared is half the battle.

  • Read up on boss tactics. We can explain some, but we're not raiding school.
  • Have two free chat channels. Your classlead or recruitment officer will ask you to join some channels on the night. When your trial is over, please leave the channels again.
  • Turn off mods which spam channels unless they are specifically requested.
  • Install and test Mumble. Set it up with Push to Talk. It is very important that your Mumble does not echo or feedback and that you can understand orders given over Mumble.
  • Repair and gather consumables.

Finally, be on time. We won't be waiting.

Old applications

Postby Jemaius » Wed Feb 14, 2007 7:51 pm

Old Applications
Applications which have had no replies for 30 days will be automatically removed by the forum software. If you still wish for your application to be considered, please bump it once in a while, posting new accomplishments and/or important information. Please note that there is no need to go to extremes. A good measure is to keep us updated once or twice a month on any new gear (if any) and that you're still interested. Just reply to your old topic to bump it up.
